The Benefits To A Company Of Sub-contracting Their Telephone Interviews

Our process of hiring staff consists of three stages, stage one written or electronic application, stage two telephone interviews and stage three face to face interviews. Due to the high number of written and electronic applications that would be deemed as suitable and progress, it was obvious that second stage telephone interviews would need to be outsourced due to the volume of applicants.

To ensure the correct applicant was put forward for the third stage, we were able to work closely with the call centre team to provide a very tight job specification that the potential employees were expected to meet. During this process we were teamed with our personal account manager and together we devised a script that incorporated our required questions, along with ideal responses, that ensured we received a ‘best fit’ short list from the applicants. With an already experienced call centre work force, very little training was needed; we were therefore able to begin the project in a short space of time.

Sub contracting our telephone interviews not only reduced our workload but enabled some of the telephone interviews to be conducted outside of normal work hours, indeed certain applicants preferred to be contacted out of hours. This would not have been possible if we had kept this project in house as our office hours are the standard nine till five.

The process of outsourcing our telephone interviews required a lot of trust on our part, as missing out on the best potential applicants was not an option. Working closely with our dedicated account manager eased this uncertainty, as even though were not personally handling the calls and the workload, we felt part of the process due to the detailed reports and communication that we received on a regular basis.

We were able to complete our task of hiring four new employees without a large and distracting overhead, whilst retaining the feeling that we were personally involved. The personalized approach, the dedicated work team and attention to detail meant we felt the benefits of an in house team without incurring significant set-up or training costs.
